Shih Tzu is one of the oldest breeds in the world, that dates from 8000 years b.c. There is evidence that it came from China or Tibet. It was brought to Europe from Beijing in early 20th century.
There are several legends about it, and one of them is about this dog saving Buddah when he was being robbed, by changing into a lion, so this dog is often called Lion Dog.
Another name of this breed is Chrisanteme dog, because of the way its hair grows in all directions, resembling a flower.
It belongs to toy group of dogs, and it was developed as a companion dog. It can also be an excellent watch dog due to its alertness.
Shih Tzu only wants to be close to its family, cuddle and play, making everyone happy. Its favourite place is its owner’s lap.
What makes Shih Tzu so special?
Shih Tzu is a very small dog, so it should be supervised when playing with small children who can unintentionally hurt it. It is highly social dog, and if it’s socialized well it likes strangers, children and other dogs.
It can live either in an apartment in a big city, or in a countryside house, it addapts easily, the only important thing for this dog is to be with its family, giving attention, as well as receiving it. It’s not recommended for it to live outdoors, especially in hot weather, beacuse it’s very sensitive to heat.
Shih Tzu’s long, dense coat which comes in all colors, needs regular brushing and combing.
