English Cocker Spaniel breed is from England, and was used mostly for hunting. Cocker got its name from flushing woodcocks. There are two types of this breed: field and show.
Field cockers are used for hunting and field work, and show type is for confirmation shows. Field type is a little bit more energetic then the show one.
They both need lots of exercise and outside activities in order for them to be calm and obedient. They also need to have an authoritative owner, or else they can easily become stubborn and disobedient. Their character can be very different between two Cockers, it mostly depends on the way their training was conducted, or the behavior of the owner.
What makes Cocker Spaniel unique?
English Cocker Spaniels are all intelligent, some of them can be passionate and playful, some calm, alert and shy, but most of them make great family dogs, as they are lovable and pleasant and excellent with children. They usually bond with just one person in the family they live in.
Cocker’s long coat doesn’t shed much, but it must be brushed regularly. These dogs can live indoors, but should be provided with regular walks.
